Grade 4 Math

If your child is studying Grade 4 math, then he or she should be able to master several math strands at the end of the school year. Getting to know your child’s study course will be beneficial for both you and your child.

This will help you monitor your child’s progress in his or her math class. You can also use this study course as a guide in evaluating whether your child is learning enough in school.

If you find out that your child is missing out, then it is a good chance for you to help him cope up or catch up with his lessons. Being an assistant in your child’s learning progress is a very crucial role that you should enforce as often as you can.

One of the math concepts in a Grade 4 math study course is building the child’s foundation on numbers. Your child muse be able to locate, compare, order, represent, and identify numbers from 0 to 10 000. Your child should also be able to count by multiples of 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, and 10.

Demonstrating and understanding fraction should also be mastered in this grade. Your child should also have a concrete knowledge in measurement.

This includes complete understanding of inches, feet, yards, miles, millimeters, centimeters, meters, kilometers, etc. Concepts of mass and volume and identifying the appropriate units should also be taught.

In this grade, geometry is also introduced. Identifying, sorting, and classifying a variety of geometric shapes and figures should be one of the exercises.

Towards the end, your Grade 4 math study course should introduce algebra or patterning concepts as well as probability.

Your child should be able to identify and describe patterns and predict results based on logical reasoning. It is best to develop their understanding in these concepts during this stage. This is in order to prepare them for their math lessons on the next grade.
